December of Awesome

Another Monday here, another weekend gone.  It’s a good thing I truly love my job, because weekends go by SO QUICKLY around these parts!

This past weekend kicked off a December of Awesome.  One of the reasons I’m so determined to make this a December of Awesome is the fact that I will be spending my second Christmas in New York, away from my family who will be celebrating it up in Denton, at the Shugarman Manor.  [Will someone please get that teleportation device working, already!?!?]  After having a bit of an emotional breakdown talking about it with Nicholas recently, he promised we would have an awesome December in New York, which prompted December of Awesome.  While I am sad that I won’t be with my family in person this holiday season, I am super stoked to have Skype on my new computer and plan to spend Christmas morning “with them” via video chat.  Hooray!

How else to kick-off the first weekend of December-of-Awesome than some Christmas decorating at THS Headquarters? I kept things pretty minimual at my place this year, just pulling out some of my favorite decorations to spread throughout the apartment.  A tree here, a snowman there, you know the drill 😉

I also decided that it was finally time to put up the tree.

I was having a hard time deciding if I wanted to put up a tree this year for a few reasons.  First off, I had reservations about Benson‘s need to climb everything.  And bat at everything. And eat everything.  Though, after some pep talks from Courtney and Nick, I finally decided that it would be worth it in the end. [Courtney promised Benson would be okay. Nick may have just wanted to watch Benson climb the tree. The jury is still out on that one.]

Secondly, this was only the second Christmas I would be using this tree [a hand-me-down from my boss, Jenn] and last year I did 100% paper tree trimming.  I was really doubting that I had enough ornaments in my Christmas boxes to cover the tree.  Clearly, you can see this wasn’t anything to be worried about…

I don’t know how I forgot about all the ornaments I received last year during the Homemade Ornament Exchange I hosted!  I have so many fun handmade gifts from friends and readers across the country!  [this one was made by the uber-talented Kat!]

I also seem to have collected quite a few owl ornaments throughout the years, from various loved ones as treasured gifts.  Did you know that owls are a symbol of luck according to Polish tradition?  You can thank Nick’s mom for that  bit of trivia!!

It was a busy day at THS Headquarters, getting things all festive-like.  Some of us were more exhausted from the excitement than others.  Ha!

Things are looking pretty good for December-of-Awesome if you ask me!  I am prepared for a kick-butt December, rounding out 2011 as the best year of my life and ringing in 2012 with promises to kick the pants off of 2011!   When I think back to where my life was just a few years ago, I am often in awe of how long I went about living a less-than-stellar life.  I can’t believe how long I allowed myself to live in misery, doing so much damage to myself.

My life is in no way perfect these days, but perfection isn’t what makes life worth living, if you ask me.  [I believe there is such a thing as “the most perfect imperfections,” and I adore them!]   2011 definitely hasn’t been all smooth sailing and drama-free, but my outlook, attitude, and priorities have most certainly shifted.  I can honestly say [as I have said so many times this year] that I’ve never been happier or felt more whole than I have this year.

Last year, Kelly sent me the most adorable knit heart ornament for my tree, accompanied by a yogi tea tag fortune.  “Be proud of who you are,” reads the tag.

and I am.

Aww your tree is so cute! We always overstuff our tree with a ton of homemade ornaments my mom collected over the years from us. It’s hilarious to see the ones involving grade school pictures. 🙂

I’ve never Skyped before. I hear it’s nifty.

Omigoooosh… I can see the ornament I sent you on your tree! That just made my week. I loved your ornament swap- it was really neat to send and receive handmade christmas ornaments across the country to and from people I’d never met but shared a love for craftmaking with! Makes the world seem a tiny bit smaller! 🙂

Your tree is beautiful! I also love the Christmas Countdown. I’m a little bummed to not be able to spend Christmas with my family but I’m excited to spend it with Richard for the first time! I’m totally going to steal your Skype idea Christmas morning! <3
