While I was in Gettysburg, Nicholas did an amazing job of keeping me updated on the status of the kitten. Throughout my 53 or so hours away, I received several texts and photos updating me on the happenings with this little guy. This little guy who I thought was going to be named Clinton. It made perfect sense at the time! But then I got back to New York and spent time with him and realized that neither Nicholas nor myself had actually called the cat “Clinton” to his face. I had only told people I named him Clinton. Every time we spoke about him or two him we called him “kitten” “the cat” or “little guy.” I tried calling him Clinton, and it just didn’t work.

Last night the three of us were spending some quality time together in my living room, and as the kitten was chasing ribbons, Nicholas and I were trying to come up with other name ideas. [side note: I don't understand why naming this cat is such a big deal to me, but I just won't settle on something that doesn't seem to fit him, and myself, perfectly.]
We were discussing the cat’s fear of just about everything, and I was trying to come up with character references in pop culture who were also fearful of every little noise and movement. We talked about him being a “Spaz” and “Tweak”ing out and that maybe “Jitters” was a good choice. I mentioned “Prose” would be cute, and debated between Misfortune and Fortune, before deciding it just wasn’t going to fit. I continued to plug for Bartlet, which Lauren pointed out was dualy perfect both for references to fictional Presidents and beloved pears. ”Still not giving up on that one, are you?” Nicholas asked me, before a long pause and simple “Oh, boy.”
“What?”
“I just thought of something really stupid, but I know you are going to love it. A blitten. A blogger’s kitten.”
And I may have fallen a little bit farther for Nicholas in this moment in time.
I think we shall start a club. A Blitten Club. Members I am hopeful to convince into joining. [aka: if you like cats, go read these blogs]
Jelly.
Cedric.
Cody.
Sasha.
Owen.
Aki.
Shelia.
Ralphie & Weaz.
I’ve received a bunch of wonderful kitten name suggestions via twitter – Wilson, Franklin Delano, Lincoln, Abe, Nixon, Getty [which 2 of my co-workers also suggested], and so many more. THANK YOU – keep them coming, because I am LOOOOOOOOOVING all your suggestions and I have a feeling it will be something one of you suggests that clinches it for this little one!

UH, I think you should just name the lil’ babe Blitten. cause I like saying it. a lot.
“hey, blitten.”
“no, blitten.”
“come here, blitten.”
“DONT SCRATCH ME, Blitten.”

I think Nicholas actually suggested “Ablitten” last night for A-blogger’s-kitten!!
Abe-litten. That’s how I read it at first. Almost like Abe Lincoln. Look what you’re doing to me, Heather!

I keep trying to say it that way as well
duh.
Love that!
Part of me keeps thinking “Blitten is an awesome name for the kitty.”
And then another part of me says, “But is it too much like Blitzen? Or Bitten?”
So if you name him Blitten (which is super cute), please call him Blitzen during the Christmas season.

Might a suggest the names of Teddy Roosevelt’s cats? He was a lover of animals so it seems appropriate. He had two cats – Tom Quartz and Slippers. Or to stick with Clinton…you could name him Socks!

Awww. He reminds me of my childhood cat, Midnight. Thanks for sharing the links to other bloggers who like cats.

I LOVE the Blitten!!!! It’s original and when times call for a quick, short nickname, Blit work or Mr. B. Blitten has a lot of potential and it’s better than Shadow or Blackie.
Aww a blitten!! Cute.
I’m smitten for mine, too. And what about a horse? Would that be blorse? Maybe a blorsie..that sounds a little cuter.
Oh, and a dog’s a blog! haha! Having way to much fun saying different types of animals like this now…
hahah. LOVE IT!
