Dear August –
Hello! It’s so great to see you, again. Won’t you come and stay awhile?
I know it’s early in our visit, but I simply MUST say how happy I am to have you here. I have so much planned for the two of us to enjoy together. Thrilling, no?
I hope you are ready for several weeks of laughter. It’s the sweetest medicine, don’t you agree? I have been allowing myself to fall into daydreams of laughter, lately. I picture late evenings surrounded by people I love, laughing with one another as we smoothly move from late summer to early autumn. Sunset picnics and late night sipping, enjoying the warmth as the cool breeze blows into town. Long, rambly conversations. Sharing of stories from our teenaged years. Coming to a better understanding of one another. We will come to understand you, too, August.
Weekends of travel are upon us, with your arrival, August. A possible camping trip here and a race to run there. Soon I will be headed to Philly with a carful of girlfriends. There has promised to be some old school sing-a-longs and good snack-age on this road trip, and I honestly don’t know if I could ask for anything better. Over the moon: that’s how to explain my feelings about reuniting with old blends and making new ones at HLS in just a little over two weeks. There is something extremely special about spending a long weekend with the most wonderful group of likeminded individuals. People who understand the way you do the things you do. Those who celebrate the accomplishments you reach, no matter how small they may seem to the outside world, because they truly get it. Men and women who understand terms that sometimes bring you inquisitive looks when mentioned with your non-blogging/social-media/HLB friends.
Thank you for bringing with you the promise of my favorite time of year. I know that as our time together crawls to an end, you will deliver the beginning of NCAA Football, and this Badger fan could not be more elated to put on her gear and get her cheer on. Yes, August, it’s true. I am ready for some football. Thank you for asking. I am ready for College Game Day by the Home Depot, teaching friends to come along with me if they want to be a Badger (trust me, you WANT to be a Badger) and explaining how fabulous it feels to simply ‘Jump Around.’ I am eager for the Battle of the Axe. I am ready for my twitter feed to be full of Yes! And No! as my pals cheer for their ‘Noles, and Gators, and Hurricanes. I’m ready to answer what’s round on the ends and HI in the middle?, and sing along to Boomer Sooner. And I’m ready to read all about Taylor’s 2nd Tailgate Tour, wishing I was along for the ride.
Stay as long as you would like, dear August. I know you have plans to high-tail it out of here right before your pal September shows up, but can urge you to slow it down, take it easy, and make it last. I want to savor our time together. This has been the most amazing summer of my life, and I want to cherish each and every moment if possible. [After all, 2011 is totally my year.]
So excited for all we will conquer and celebrate together!
