Immediate Recovery Hours

How I spent the 12 hours following my completion of the Boilermaker 15K.

Hour 1:

  • Being frustrated, light headed, and confused.
  • Walking around the post race party.
  • Not drinking beer.
  • Laughing at Jen as she drank beer.
  • Eating a few cookies and drinking water.

Hours 2-3:

  • Riding a school bus shuttle to the start line.
  • Driving back to Scotia with Chris and Jen.
  • Being extra-ordinarily spacey.
  • Laughing at Jen some more.
  • Eating a lemon Chobani and drinking water.

Hours 4-12:

  • Watching an epic game of Scrabble
  • Playing with magnetic poetry
  • Continuing to be spacey
  • Refusing to open my computer
  • Giggling uncontrollably and realizing; “This must be what runner’s high feels like”
  • Realizing I didn’t really eat much after the race, and the six males I was with lecturing me about my needing to eat. [eventually, when my appetite appeared with a vengeance, I ate.]
  • Nodding each time, out of seven hundred, Nicholas reminded me to drink water. [I am a fan of him.]

To recap:

Not stretching enough. Not eating enough. Not re-hydrating enough.

But laughing a-heck-of-a-lot.

  1. Every runner has to learn – you’ve got to treat your body after the race as well as you did before! (I’m still learning)
