Things I will most likely never get sick of:

  • The West Wing on DVD
  • yoga pants
  • visiting Madison, Wisconsin
  • college football saturdays
  • laughing until my side hurts
  • the smell of rain in the summertime
  • ice cream

Oh, you too?  Don’t think you’ll ever get sick of ice cream?  Good news: I have just the place for you to visit next time you’re in the Dallas area.  Venture North and wander into Denton’s own Beth Marie’s Old Fashion Ice Cream & Soda Fountain.  You won’t be disappointed.

There are two locations in Denton [Unicorn Lake and on the Denton Square] and I was lucky enough to convince my family to take me downtown to the Denton Square for my very first Beth Marie’s experience.  Shockingly, it didn’t take too much convincing at all.  I am pretty sure my sister’s ear literally perked up when we started talking about making our visit.

Not only does Beth Marie’s offer the very highest quality homemade ice cream, they also offer lunch every day from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. [Though I would be tempted to order ice cream for lunch, myself. just saying.]

The decor completely matched my idea of an “old fashioned ice cream parlor and soda fountain.”  I loved the checkered floor, long bar full of stools, and small touches of 1950’s charm!

Beth Marie’s high quality homemade ice cream is made on the premises, and they have several dozen flavors to choose from.  The board is beautifully done – a great display of all the flavors and treats offered listed in an array of bright and cheery colors.

All those choices were a bit overwhelming.  I kind of wanted to try them all! [Hey! I was on vacation 😉 ]

I was super excited to see the “Sampler Boat” on the menu – containing three junior scoops of which ever flavors struck my fancy.  I also loved that Beth Marie’s charged by the ounce.  Maybe I could just get a teaspoon of each flavor? 😉

I stepped up to place my order: The Sampler Boat, of course.
I asked for tiny junior scoops of three of the several flavors that I was lusting after: Olde English Toffee, Almond Joy, and Emily’s Campfire Marshmallow.

The boat turned out quite beautifully, don’t you think?

I wish I could tell you which flavor was my favorite.  The truth is, they were all fantastic!  Creamy and flavorful, and not a bit too rich.  I was a very satisfied customer. [and, of course, as I write this, my mouth is watering. I would like more, please!]

My dad would like me to tell you the following:

I am a “healthy living blogger.”  I am also the only member of my family that ordered more than one scoop of ice cream.

I would like to follow up with the following:

There is nothing wrong with three scoops of ice cream.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with three scoops of Beth Marie’s ice cream.

  1. Yummo! I’ve been to Denton more times than I can count (I’m from DFW), but have never been there! There’s a cute ice cream shop in Granbury, TX (south of DFW) that kind of reminds me of your pictures. Excellent choices! I’m craving ice cream now even though it’s only 7am.

  2. “there is nothing wrong with three scoops of ice cream.” -i’m totally with you on that one! absolutely nothing wrong with it. 🙂 especially in summer!!

Oh my lord, I would have gone nuts for this place. Seriously…all those flavors?? I would have had to stop in each day I was there so I could try more.
That being said…I need to make a trip to Dallas, ASAP. 😉

  9. The old-fashioned photo effect is so smart for this! We have a really modern fro yo place around the corner which is nice, but I would take 3 scoops of the real stuff anytime.

  11. There is nothing wrong with eating 3 scoops of Beth Marie ice cream or with watching The West Wing at anytime. In fact, anyone who says it’s wrong needs to step outside and spit 3 times lest they tempt the wrath of the whatever from high atop the thing!

  12. As a Dentonite, I can say there is NEVER anything wrong with 3 scoops of ice cream! i hope you got to try a waffle cone while there…they are amazing!!

  13. […] Beth Marie’s ice cream in holiday flavors.  My parents recently went for a scoop and brought back a few containers for us to share – Peppermint, Eggnog, and Hansel & Gretel, which is a gingerbread flavor! […]
