Woke up at 9:12, after getting somewhere around eight and one half hours of slumber, and looked up at the ceiling.

Reheated two pieces of French Toast, topped with a teaspoon or so of all natural chunky peanut butter and a dab of maple syrup.  Enjoyed with two large glasses of water and a side of Jimmy Fallon’s interview on Pierce Morgan.

Got dressed. Hair in bun. Baseball cap snug.  Add the Garmin.  Fill the water bottle. Fill the IPod. Fill the Spibelt. Tweet. Facebook. Text Julie the level of insanity I am facing.

Head out the door. Walk to J. Watt’s Barista House.  Hang out at an outdoor table for a minute. Pump self up. Belt on. Shoes tied.

Ready. Set. Go.

See cheerleaders practicing near the river. Weird.

Run. Run. Run some more.
1 mile. 2 miles. 3 miles. 4.
5 miles.
6 miles.
Feeling strong until about 6.5.
Then I feel like death.
Push through until 7 or so, and have an emergency texting conversation with Jen.
Move forward.  Hit about 8. Run out of water.  Call my friends who live near by.  No dice.
Head to campus.

Gorgeous day and gorgeous scenery pushing me through.
After my Garmin says 9.75 I change from podcasts of awesome to music of power.
Loop around at the park.
Start running towards home.
Pass my dear friend Jason, who cheers me on for the last tenth of a mile or so, which causes me to pick up the pace from 11:00 minute mile to 9:13.
Feel epic.
Try to take ten finger pose photo. Realize I don’t have a camera with a self timer any longer. Only my blackberry. Improvise. Blogger win.

I conquered 10.74 miles.
I imagine my high school self starting a chant of “Doub-le Dig-its. XX-XXX”
I guess this means I will survive the Boilermaker 15K on July 10th.

I think I may need to invest in a spibelt soon, seeing as I usually run alone and only one of my pants has pockets. Do you love yours? Advice? Other suggestions?

    • I do really like my SpiBelt. Jen completely talked me into it, and I am v. thankful. I purchased it off amazon and it wasn’t that pricey at all.

When I first started running I bought a little pack from EMS. It’s like a hiking/fanny pack type thing. It’s A LOT bigger than the spibelt, but was about the same price. It moves around. A LOT. and is generally super awkward.

The spibelt really doesnt move much at all. Especially if I position the pocket on my hip. (if its too far on the center, it does bounce slightly if I have a lot in it (phone, fuel, advil, etc.) but that may be more because of my being overweight than anything else. When it sits on my hip though, it’s perfection.

      so yes. buy it.

Also – I used to run HOLDING my phone and now I dont drop it. that is helpful. ;) I would hold my phone in one hand, a bottle of water in the other, pin fuel to my shirt and loop my key ring around my sports bra. I was talented. ;)

  12. I love the final picture of you! Such a big, wonderful smile. <3 <3 And running around Union must be beautifulllll!
