When my friend Rebecca and I realized we both had the same afternoon available in our schedules, I got pretty excited.  We hadn’t had a friend date since we had ventured to Moon & River Cafe, and I knew that Rebecca was just the girl to convince to help me with my dedication to fun productivity!

I’m about 10 months away from the deadline for my 101 in 1001 list, and it seems i still have a long way to go when it comes to completing the list.  When Rebecca and I decided on an afternoon to hang out, I sent her an email listing off all the possibilities of things we could do together. All of the possibilities just happened to be on my 101 in 1001 list.  [I’m selfish sneaky like that.]

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how we ended up having a picnic in the park.  While it was windy. And cold. And possibly beginning to snow. Just two sleeps before Christmas.

How to Have a Winter Picnic in the Park

1. Layer up. I wore a t-shirt, a long sleeved t-shirt, a hooded sweatshirt. I also wore an ear/head band and a hat, two pairs of socks, a scarf, and eventually gloves.

2. Bring Warm Food. The night before our picnic, I defrosted some Black Bean & Squash Chili.  A few minutes before we left for the park, I heated the chili and spooned it into to-go mugs. [Who needs a thermos when you have lots of to-go hot beverage containers?] We also toasted a couple of Arnolds thins to eat with the chili.

3. Be ready for anything. Including, but not limited to, chasing down the bag you carried all the food to the park in, as the wind carries it away.

4. Plan a post-picnic warm activity.  Such as puzzle solving while drinking almond milk latte’s at your new favorite coffee shop, J. Watt’s Barista House.

5. Conquer it all with a friend who enjoys giggling for hours. Like Rosey Rebecca. at shop
