Several weeks ago, I visited Indian Ladder Farms with some of the best ladies this side of the Mississippi. Meet Lauren, Cynthia, Jen, Rebecca, Nicole, and Michelle.

We tackled the day in true blogger style – first up, brunch. We ate at the Yellow Rock Cafe, which is on the farm.
Doing as healthy living bloggers do, we took our time perusing the menu, reading each description, hemming, hawing, and debating.
A few things on the menu didn’t just speak to my appetite, they spoke to my heart! Cheese curds made with local cheese, in cider batter were just right for this Wisconsin girl! And of course, I couldn’t pass up on some fresh made apple cider.

Doing as healthy living bloggers do, finding a way to make one healthy decision at a time. Work outs on the farm; strength training with squash and a little all over yoga – tree poses near the apple trees!

To continue on with the doing as healthy living bloggers do, the following weekend I took a bit of my apple picking bounty and headed to my friend Jennifer’s house, where we made an apple pie from scratch.
It was the first time either of us have made a crust from scratch, so we depended on the best advice [which, admittedly, also intimidated me a bit] from The Joy of Cooking.
After doing our research, we made the crust.
Then we used the fancy apple peeler and corer.
I’m a fan of the peels.
We prepared the crusts for the pan.
We prepared the apple slices and filled the pie.

Oh my I love that apple peeler! I always want one to mount to a butcher block.
Looks like you did a fabulous job

I love how I’m in a billion pictures that I didn’t even know you were taking. <3 <3 This was so much fun. My favorite is the one of me standing across the street taking pictures.
LOVEEEEE you!
Also, that hat is too big for my head, and I only now realize that when looking at the pictures. YAY
Also, this comment is horribly written. I just woke up and went straight to http://www.thenheathersaid.com
That’s my life.
The end.
Looks like you had a great day, love the pics! And the pie looks amazing!
This looks so fun. And, man, those are some huge squash!!
Joy of Cooking is SO legit. No frills, just straight up teaching you to bake things from scratch that you’ve never baked before! And that pie looks GOOD.
