Recovery

I feel like it’s been a year since I’ve last posted.  [a year – 4 days, what’s the difference?]

This week has been crazy busy.  I’ve put in over 55 hours at my office job, spent two nights dining and drinking with visitors who were in for the training we hosted, worked two nights at my part time job, and submitted four articles for reviews. I am tired. exhausted.  [and perhaps a bit hung over.]

Although I have 16 emails in my inbox that are weighing heavy on my mind and heart to reply to, although I have 3 craft projects I was planning on wrapping up this weekend, although my apartment is in shambles, I missed 2 work outs because of unexpected work dinners and my “To Do This Week” list has barely been touched – I know that I have to cut myself some slack.

I need a bit of a detox. So instead of replying to emails, and doing dishes, and cutting paper, and running ten miles, and crossing anything off my list I’ll be in my apartment, in old too big navy sweat pants and my Lodi soccer hoodie with the following:

I need a day of mindlessness.  Where I don’t overanalyze anything, and I can follow other [fictional] story lines, and page through magazines as I rehydrate myself after two nights of way too many glasses of red.

Sometimes the healthy decision is the decision to do nothing at all.  And that really is something.

This morning, just a few short minutes before leaving my apartment I found myself in a rush to update my facebook status regarding the Online Bake Sale for Haiti. [go bid on my trio of cookies!]

Even though I should have been out the door and on my way to the office
already, I had to take the time to screen shot this so that we could all enjoy the irony together.

Top Ten Tuesday: Giving

1. I’ve been doing a lot more writing in my personal journal as of late.  I don’t mind it at all. It’s less of a “dear diary” and more of a “this is what I heard/read/found today and this is my reaction to it. The past ten days or so, I’ve been writing a lot about GIVING.  I’ve pledged that in 2010 I will give more.  More time.  More money.  More attention. More energy. More help.  Recently, when I was asked the question “What can you start doing this year that will make the world a better, kinder place?”  I responded with one word: give.   I am so blessed that the only thing I know how to do at this point is to give.  The wordiness that is my very being could not come up with anything else. Give.  It’s simple and it’s honest.  I challenge you- what can you give this year month week moment?

2. I have a very sweet high school friend named Carrie.  We graduated together, and our sophomore year of college, she transferred to the college I was attending and we were reunited.  I left that summer for my time in the South, but we stayed in contact over the years- an email here, a birthday card there, and the last trip I took to Madison I was lucky enough to get to spend some time with her, and a few other of my classmates, at the Angelic for long conversations of catch up and a few adult beverages.

Recently, Carrie and I have been emailing one another and she has been such an encouragement to me!  She’s constantly Giving her love and support to me, sending it from the west coast to the east coast in words and strength and unending kindness. Imagine my surprise when late last week, I found a little surprise in my mailbox from the beautiful, sweet-hearted Care Bear; THANK YOU, my dear, sweet friend!
